Mr. Willard J. Moody's career as a lawyer began in 1952, when he began representing injured railroad workers. His law firm offices are located in Portsmouth, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida, with a staff of fourteen attorneys.

He is appointed Legal Counsel for the following railroad unions:

Brotherhood of Railway Signalmen (BRS)
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
International Brotherhood of Boilermakers (IBBB)

Mr. Moody served with distinction in his profession as a Legislator. He was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1958 and then elected to the Virginia State Senate in 1968. He served a total of 28 years in the House and Senate of Virginia before retiring in 1983, while at the same time personally maintaining a busy FELA law practice and managing a firm of experienced FELA attorneys.

His legal affiliations include past president of the Portsmouth Bar Association, past president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and Lecturer for the Virginia State Bar. He has been a long-standing member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys.

He is listed in Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in American Politics and Who's Who in the South and Southwest. He has obtained many jury verdicts and settlements in excess of a million dollars and is the only Virginia lawyer to be nominated and confirmed into the Inner Circle of Advocates, a national legal society limiting membership to attorneys who have obtained jury verdicts in excess of a million dollars.

Mr. Moody obtained a $5 million verdict in a back injury case for a railroad worker, which represents one of the larger FELA verdicts obtained in Virginia. He, along with his son, Willard J. Moody, Jr., also recently negotiated a settlement for an injured brakeman-conductor for $ 3.5 million, again representing one of the larger FELA settlements received in Virginia.
