James Sheridan Strickland is an associate attorney with The Moody Law Firm. Licensed to practice law in Virginia, Mr. Strickland brings substantial courtroom experience developed while serving as a criminal prosecutor in two of Virginia’s largest urban jurisdictions.
Before joining The Moody Law Firm, Mr. Strickland served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, where he prosecuted cases ranging from misdemeanor DUI and traffic offenses to serious felony charges. His background as a prosecutor sharpened his skills in trial advocacy, witness examination, evidence presentation, and oral argument—skills he now brings to representing injured clients and their families.
Mr. Strickland began his legal career at the Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, where he served as a Legal Fellow from 2022 to 2023. In May 2023, he joined the City of Norfolk as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney. During his tenure there, he prosecuted criminal matters in the General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and Circuit Court.
From October 2024 through August 2026, Mr. Strickland served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach. He continued to prosecute a wide range of criminal matters throughout Virginia’s court system, gaining extensive hands-on experience preparing cases, presenting evidence, examining witnesses, and advocating in the courtroom.
Mr. Strickland earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2022. While attending law school, he received the University of Richmond Public Service Award and completed the Bridge to Practice Fellowship, a selective postgraduate program designed to develop practice-ready attorneys. He also served as a research assistant to Dr. Hamilton Bryson, a leading authority on Virginia legal history, and was an active member of The John Marshall American Inn of Court.
Mr. Strickland earned his Bachelor of Arts in History, magna cum laude, from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, in 2019. He brings academic distinction, extensive courtroom experience, and a strong commitment to advocacy to every client matter he handles at The Moody Law Firm.
